Why Convert from Raster to Vector?īefore jumping into the process of how to vectorize an image, let’s quickly re-examine the benefits of using vectors. When life gives you raster images, here is what you need to know about vectorizing them. The mathematical proportions allow scalability without losing image quality, making vector images best suited for most graphic design applications. Vector graphics, on the other hand, store the same data as a set of mathematically defined points, lines, or shapes. This loss of image quality comes from the file type, which stores image data as pixels. Raster images can be used in many scenarios, but can become pixelated or blurry when resized. What does it mean to vectorize an image? It’s a simple file conversion, but to help you better understand the process, we’ll break down the two categories of image file formats. That’s when you’ll need to know a little more about the process of vectorizing an image. If you’re lucky, it will be a compatible file, but the format you’re given to work with often needs a little tweaking. But sometimes, a client asks you to incorporate existing files into your design. When starting from scratch, it’s generally easy to design in a vector file format. Vectorizing Images: Why and How to Vector TraceĪs an aspiring graphic designer or illustrator, you know the importance of having crisp, clear, and versatile image files.

If you have an Android device or one of the other two platforms which support both Opera Mini and Opera Mobile, I definitely recommend giving both a try. With a rendering engine running on your device, Opera Mobile offers a web browsing experience comparable to a desktop computer. This app is perfect for those with fast networks speeds and powerful hardware. This means a faster web browsing experience on slow networks and bandwidth savings for those pay by the megabyte. On the other hand, Opera Mobile is a full-blown browser. This app actually sends the wanted website to Opera’s servers for some heavy-duty compression. Interestingly enough, things work differently when using Opera Mini. When someone traditionally visits a webpage, their browser generally requests information directly from the respective server. With two apps overlapping across three platforms, what is the difference anyways? BlackBerry and iOS users only have the choice of Opera Mini while MeeGo users only have the option of Opera Mobile. After looking into the matter a bit further, I found some interesting details on a recent Opera’s blog entry.įor starters, it turns out that Opera Mini and Opera Mobile both run on the following three platforms: Android, S60 (Symbian OS), and Windows Mobile. The difference between the two was not entirely clear. After searching the Android Market, I was a bit confused to find two apps: Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. Thankfully, the official FCC Consumer Facts About Digital TV web page provides some hints. When it comes to determining whether your existing TV has a digital tuner or not, things get a little confusing. You might find watching DVDs a better alternative, as it doesn’t matter how far away from the station you are - you always get good reception ’round the clock.Īnd, if a campground has cable TV provided at your campsite, then that will still work as it does now.īasically, the whole analog to digital switcheroo only affects “free TV channels” that people are watching on standard (analog) television sets - usually with an antenna. If you would like to add a DVD player to yours, you can get one pretty quickly (and inexpensively) these days. Our Dutchman 18B travel trailer came with a DVD player built right into the standard AM/FM stereo receiver. (So if you’re a subscriber to Netflix for rental movies on the road, then you’re still in business.) Likewise, analog-only TVs should also continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services. The changes from analog to digital signals will have no affect on how add-ons like gaming consoles, VCRs, and DVD players will work with old TVs. Of course, if the TV entertainment aboard your RV mainly consists of watching DVDs, then you’ll be fine. In short: watching DVD movies will be no problem, but watching free television channels are another story.įor example, when camping in areas where today you crank up your Winegard TV antenna to watch the evening news… if your television doesn’t have a digital tuner, then you will be left without any reception come February. This is because all channels will only be broadcast with digital signals on that date. If a television has an analog tuner (rather than a digital tuner), then it will require a converter box after Februin order to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna. What does this mean for RVers? What about the TVs in RV travel trailers and motorhomes? How can you tell if a TV is analog or digital anyway? This time next year, there will be a whole lot of useless TVs out there that will no longer be receiving an analog signal.Īs you’ve probably heard by now, the whole country is switching from analog to digital TV signals by Februas mandated by the U.S. If you buy thru these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. The performance increases brought by Intel's HD Graphics made the products competitive with integrated graphics adapters made by its rivals, Nvidia and ATI/AMD. The previous Intel integrated graphics solution, Intel GMA, had a reputation of lacking performance and features, and therefore was not considered to be a good choice for more demanding graphics applications, such as 3D gaming. As part of the Platform Controller Hub (PCH) design, the northbridge was eliminated and graphics processing was moved to the same die as the central processing unit (CPU). They were known as Intel Extreme Graphics and Intel GMA. However, this percentage does not represent actual adoption as a number of these shipped units end up in systems with discrete graphics cards.īefore the introduction of Intel HD Graphics, Intel integrated graphics were built into the motherboard's northbridge, as part of the Intel's Hub Architecture. In the fourth quarter of 2013, Intel integrated graphics represented, in units, 65% of all PC graphics processor shipments. Since 2016 Intel refers to the technology as Intel Iris Plus Graphics with the release of Kaby Lake. Iris Pro Graphics was the first in the series to incorporate embedded DRAM. Intel Iris Graphics and Intel Iris Pro Graphics are the IGP series introduced in 2013 with some models of Haswell processors as the high-performance versions of HD Graphics. It was first introduced in 2010 as Intel HD Graphics and renamed in 2017 as Intel UHD Graphics. Intel Graphics Technology ( GT) is the collective name for a series of integrated graphics processors (IGPs) produced by Intel that are manufactured on the same package or die as the central processing unit (CPU). Are you saying that you didn't realize this would be a significant issue? Why did the graphics/art features get designed in a way Sally, you've suggested that there is no simple solution because of how you've changed the graphics/art features. The time having to select objects one at a time with the control key is a useless waste of time. I just recently upgraded to 2010 and I wish I hadn't. It when I read that this has been a known issue since Word 2010 Beta in Dec 2009 and continues to be an issue now with the full release, almost a year later. Not being able to select a bunch of objects at the same time is a great limitation. I agree with the others - this is ridiculous that Microsoft would make this tool available but remove its ability to do anything useful. I sincerely hope the information above can help. You might ask how this is different than selecting shapes without turning on "select objects" the answer to that would be to allow you to select shapes that are "behind" text, or more easily select rotated shapes, etc. You can select multiple shapes holding down the CTRL or SHIFT key while clicking shapes. That said, the "select object" tool that exists in Word 2010 should allow you to select individual shapes. We upgrading our graphics/art features the way the shapes/objects need to be selected is different than how "old" graphics/art is selectable in Word 2007. It's not as simple as using the same feature that existed in the last version since The work needed to make the object selection work as it did in Word 2007 was out of scope for this release. Thank you for using Word IT Pro Discussions forum.Īccording to Peter’s reply, this might be an issue by design. |
